Ideally located at the foot of the world famous Matterhorn, Zermatt is a peaceful, snow-covered wonderland. Largely considered Switzerland's top ski resort, Zermatt is a 4-hour train ride from Zurich. This picturesque resort encompasses three ski areas which have superb snow conditions and the longest season in the Alps.

There are also no cars allowed in Zermatt. Everyone must arrive by train instead of cars, the only transportation in town is by electric taxis, ski buses or horse-drawn sleighs. There is easy access to the slopes from an extensive network of 74 transport facilities and high-capacity cableways and ski-lifts. There is 244 miles of ski runs, ranging from beginners to expert. But even during the height of the ski season, the slopes rarely ever feel crowded.

The mountain itself is the world's 2nd biggest lift-served vertical drop. The snow is very reliable due to its high elevation runs attracting huge snowfalls, coupled with snowmaking on the lower slopes. It is southern, wind-protected location also makes for ideal ski conditions. In addition, there are 6 miles of cross country skiing.

The town of Zermatt has 3, 4 and 5-star hotels; some offering views of the magical Matterhorn, as well as the 28 other peaks that surround the village. There is an exciting nightlife in the village, including the casual-dress casino. This is a terrific, relaxing holiday getaway.
