Located at the foot of Mont-Blanc, Chamonix sits atop the highest peak in the Alps and the second highest in all of Europe. The resort appeals to experts and thrill-seekers alike that enjoy long runs with good snow, and a multitude of cliffs and chutes. There is an abundance of off-piste terrain and guided explorations of chutes, snowfields, glaciers and high bowls. The most well known off-piste run is the 12-mile Aiguille du Midi, that begins up top at 12,606 feet and ends in the valley about 9000 feet below. In addition, Chamonix boasts a vertical drop of 9209 feet and has one of the world's longest runs, Valle Blanch, at 13.7 miles. There are 100 miles of slopes and 47 lifts.
About an hours ride from Geneva, Chamonix is made up of seven ski areas, of which two are interconnected. The others are easily accessible by shuttles. The Grands Montets area is the most famous. It is considered by skiers and snow-boarders all over the world to be one of the most challenging. It is here that you can take a cable car to 10,000 feet and then walk up to an observation deck to experience one of the most spectacular views in Europe. This is something you are sure to remember for a lifetime!
